Shared responsibility
Comment on "Suspect oil found in Yunnan" (China Daily, May 24)
I am a foreigner and in my view curbing the food safety problems requires constant checks. The government should impose heavy fines and prison sentences on those found guilty of food crimes. Also all the cases should be reported in the media. This will also prompt the authorities to take action.
It's very easy to be critical. People like to throw stones but are less forthcoming with praise for any improvements. Actually it's everyone's obligation to help the authorities find and punish wrongdoers. It's not enough to say the law is too weak.
