Not all writers are creative

Comment on "A revealing list of writers" (China Daily, Nov 28)

Popular writers, whether famous or otherwise, are not necessarily creative. Many popular writers in the West weren't even popular during their lifetime. And some of the most creative works we get today were written when there was no such thing as copyright - the four great Chinese novels are good examples.

Lu Xun's works are not merely revolutionary but also creative, and he certainly didn't make much money from his books. The book that has influenced socialists, economists and political scientists, Capital: Critique of Political Economy by Karl Marx, was written by someone who spent his life reading and writing.

Those who think Capital is merely a work of non-fiction should go through a few chapters of the book and see how poetic Marx is in his writing about a very important subject.
