It's that wonderful time of year again, when the gift-giving period of the year is over and new smartphones and tablets are being activated. This week we take a look at the best smartphone games to install onto your shiny new device.

The Walking Dead Seasons 1 and 2

Developer: TellTale Games

Price: Free with in-App

Purchases ($30+ for all episodes)

Platform: iOS and Android

The Walking Dead Seasons 1 and 2 are role playing adventures based on the popular zombie television show of the same name. Instead of focusing on the cast from the show and the comic books, the game focuses on the choices and decisions of a young girl named Clementine. True to Telltale Game’s style, all the players' choices affect the outcome at the end game. There is no right or wrong way to play. The game is grueling and definitely heart wrenching, but it's worth a go.

Infinity Blade trilogy

Developer: Chair

Price: $9.99

Platform: iOS

There isn't much to say about

Infinity Blade that we haven't said before. The series has been continuously used as the benchmark for mobile phone graphics, and while many can leave it at that, Infinity Blade is a decent game on its own. The series is a simple hack and slash game, think Fruit Ninja but with a tad more skill and timing required. While the stories of all three games are intertwined, players can choose to start with any chapter or play them in chronological order.

Threes!

Developer: Sirvo LLC

Price: $1.99

Platform: iOS, Android,

Xbox One

We have previously raved about how amazing and cerebral Threes is, and now, we are still crazy about the match math game. Players slide a series of numbered tiles across a board hoping to match two same numbers into a multiple of three. The more the player combines, the larger the numbers get. The game is devilishly simple and super addictive. It makes for a great distraction during your morning commute.
