Actress Han Xue, who was raised in a military family in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, has been a straight-A student throughout her childhood. In 2000, Han accompanied a friend and attended a newcomer actors' contest in Shanghai. She was scouted and earned a small role in a film. It is this film that changed Han's trajectory in life.
Han's decision to apply for Shanghai Theater Academy created a bit of turmoil in her family, who wanted her to select a more traditional and "grounded" major. Han shot a film and a TV series during her senior year in high school, when time is precious and most students review their academics for the upcoming national entrance exam. Even so, she still earned great scores in gaokao and was admitted to Shanghai Theater Academy with the highest entrance score.
