Mainland actress Li Bingbing was recently declared an ambassador of the Samsung Hope Relay, a global campaign to raise money for charities.
Samsung will donate 6 yuan (90 US cents) for every kilometer run in China. The money will go to selected primary schools across China to improve sports and computer facilities.
Participants simply download the campaign's app, create their avatars and start logging their distances.
Li says she may adopt the new media approach in her own environmental protection project, L.O.V.E.
Li has also recently been named Great China-UK Cultural Exchange Ambassador and also as a London Olympic torchbearer. She will carry the torch in Cambridge on July 6.
