Reworked 'Spider-Man' swings at the box office

MixxNEW YORK – You apparently can't keep Spider-Man down, with or without Julie Taymor.
The Broadway musical "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" came in behind "Wicked" and "The Lion King" last week in its first full week after being reworked following the firing of Tony Award-winning director Taymor.
The comic book musical earned $1,260,794 from eight performances ending Sunday, or $112,000 better than the haul pulled in by "The Book of Mormon," which came in fourth. "Wicked" had $1,696,763, while Taymor's old show "The Lion King" earned $1,649,365.
The numbers for "Spider-Man" aren't too far off the highs it scored after beginning previews late last year, before being overhauled.
Other shows that made more than $1 million included "Jersey Boys," "Billy Elliot," "How to Succeed in Business" and "Priscilla Queen of the Desert."
