For his impressive role in the coming-of-age movie Our Shining Days, actor Peng Yuchang was nominated for the best new talent award of the 12th Chinese Young Generation Film Forum Awards in Beijing on Aug 30.

Other nominees for the award include Taiwan actor Eddie Peng (Duckweed) and Hong Kong singer-actor Chau Pak-ho (77 Heartbreaks).

Hosted by China Film Association, the forum, including the awards as part of it, is an annual event to honor the young talent who have obtained achievement over the past year.

Peng, 23, debuted in the hit online series Go Princess Go in 2015, and achieved more fame from Our Shining Days, which has been hailed as one of the best youth movies in recent years.

In the movie, which was released on July 20, Peng stars a music high school student drummer who is shy to speak out his love.

In a recent seminar discussing the online sensation created by the movie, dozens of movie critics and scholars praised its skillfully combining comedian stuff and an inspirational theme to promote traditional Chinese music.

Yin Hong, a professor with Tsinghua University, says the movie is a good case to enlighten domestic filmmakers on using Chinese culture to tell a good story.
