The 2017 Sino-Foreign Literature Translation and Publishing Workshop brought together a total of 46 foreign writers, translators, publishers and critics in related fields to discuss with their Chinese peers ways to improve Chinese literature translation and publishing after its opening on August 21. The weeklong workshop concluded with substantial results in Beijing on August 26, 2017.
More than 100 Chinese literature works were introduced to foreign scholars, translators and publishers during the workshop, resulting in over 20 delegates from 14 countries submitting translation application forms for financial support to translate Chinese books into other languages, including those from Italy, Germany, Israel, Romania, Vietnam, Egypt, Ukraine, Sweden, Finland and Japan.
The workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Culture of China, the State Administration of Press, Publication Radio, Film and Television as well as the China Writers Association, and organized by Chinese Culture Translation and Studies Support (CCTSS.org) and China National Publications Import and Export (Group) Cooperation. It is one of the important parts of the program “Translation on Chinese Contemporary Works,” which aims to help Chinese and foreign Sinologists to translate Chinese works, assist foreign-oriented culture and culture-related enterprises and organizations in improving their ability on multilingual translation and transmission, as well as help to build up mechanism and have a sustainable development when promoting Chinese works abroad.
