Former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda recited a sentence by Confucius, speaking of Sino-Japanese mutual understanding and trust during his speech at Peking University in 2007. "It is wise to hold what you know and admit what you don't know"(知之为知之,不知为不知,是知也). In 2007, he also visited the Temple of Confucius in Qufu, Shandong province, and wrote four Chinese characters based on the saying by Confucius"Consider the past and you shall know the future" (温故创新) which means "Creating new things through learning old things."
