The newly-renovated Hunan Provincial Museum in Changsha, Hunan province, reopened on Wednesday with a number of precious relics chosen from its collection of 180,000 pieces on public display for the first time.

Items exhibited include those from Changsha's Mawangdui Tombs of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24) and bronze ware from the Shang and Zhou dynasties (c.16th century-256 BC).

The Mawangdui Tombs are where archaeologists discovered the mummified body of Xin Zhui, wife of the prime minister of the Changsha Kingdom during the early Western Han Dynasty. The body still had intact hairs and muscles when it was unearthed.

At the exhibition, visitors can see a projected image revealing what the 17-meter-deep tomb of Xin Zhui looked like.

About 13,000 people visited the museum on Wednesday afternoon. During the first three months, only 15,000 people will be admitted to the museum each day.
