Path set by Xi gains global importance

China Daily | Updated: 2017-11-17 08:50

Sergei Luzianin, director of the Institute of Far Eastern Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences

President Xi Jinping's idea on building a community of shared destiny contains several new approaches to the comprehension of global and regional development and security. At the global level, having taken important foreign policy steps including the Belt and Road Initiative, China was able to launch a new Eurasian wave of globalization based on mutual benefit and co-development.

Sudheendra Kulkarni, chairman of the Observer Research Foundation, Mumbai

President Xi Jinping spoke with conviction of the need to continue globalization, preserve stability and ensure peace as a precondition for the development of all nations. He seemed to reassure skeptics that, even as China enters an era that will see it "moving closer to center stage", it "will continue to play its part as a major and responsible country". This is good news for India and the rest of South Asia.

Fernando Reyes Matta, a researcher at Universidad Andres Bello, Chile, and former ambassador to China

The most important achievement in the last congress of the Communist Party of China is to have defined a medium and long-term strategy for the future of China.

Four key issues were defined: The country's progress will depend on how it identifies the new demands from a society with a higher quality of life; development is directly related to knowledge, innovation and training; never again can development be achieved at the cost of the environment; and the ideological underpinnings of the People's Republic of China are in need of a new reading consistent with the realities of the 21st century.

Cai Fang, vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, it is important that the country strives to make more contributions to mankind. China's unparalleled success in reducing poverty nationwide in the past three decades, a key feature of Chinese wisdom, is proof that the central leadership holds sustainable development, balanced growth and people's well-being in high regard.

Leng Rong, director of the Party Literature Research Office of the CPC Central Committee

China's rapid development has been bolstered thanks to the central leadership with General Secretary Xi Jinping as the core and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The latter not only points the way to the future of China's unique development path but also serves as a major inspiration for countries in pursuit of independent modernization.
