Walmart Inc, one of the world’s leading retailers, has expanded its online to offline services to Guangzhou and Dongguan, two major cities in the Pearl River Delta, by launching a mobile application allowing customers to shop online, according to the company.
Walmart’s 020 services were first launched in Shenzhen in May, offering full-category online services including chilled and frozen food.
"The application received great attention and feedback from the market since it was launched in Shenzhen, helping increase sales a lot," said Jordan Berke, senior director of Hypermarket E-commerce of Walmart China.
According to Berke, downloads of the application have exceeded 300,000.
"We are very delighted to extend the service to Guangzhou and Dongguan with fuller categories and more punctual delivery so that more customers enjoy seamless 020 shopping," said Berke.
The services have now been expanded to 15 Walmart stores in Guangzhou, allowing customers to order goods online, which will be picked up at nearby stores or be delivered to homes, according to the company.
"The online service is very complementary to the offline business. The 020 service will be expanded nationwide in the near future," said Berke.
