Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Saturday.
Wang and Ban had an in-depth exchange of views on UN affairs - including counter-terrorism, Ebola, and peacekeeping -- and reached broad consensus.
Wang said China supports Ban's proposal of UN leading the international campaign against terrorism and military actions which should have the authorization of the Security Council. Counter-terrorism is the pressing task of the international community, Wang said.
On Ebola, Wang said China has offered instant assistance to relevant African countries who are fighting against the epidemic, and welcomes the coordinating role played by the UN in the worldwide operation against it.
On peacekeeping, Wang said China has made important contribution to the UN peacekeeping missions, and will carry on as a responsible major player.
The reform of the UN, Wang said, should be an all-round process, instead of being limited to certain areas. The major target of reform should be safeguarding the justified and legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
Ban expressed his gratitude to China for its strong partnership with the UN and its contributions to every area of the organization's work for the promotion of peace and security and sustainable development.
The Secretary General underlined the urgent necessity for the international community to take immediate concrete steps to help contain the outbreak of Ebola.
Ban briefed Wang on the forthcoming review to improve the effectiveness of UN peacekeeping operations and special political missions, and said he counted on China's support.
