Former US president Jimmy Carter visited the memorial hall on Dec 14, 2012.
Carter praised the Americans who organized the international safety zone in Nanjing during the war, and wrote for the memorial hall: "This is a wonderful testimony to the horrors of war and to the need for peace in all nations."
