Shanghai is encouraging local hospitals to strengthen security following a series of violent attacks against staff members.

The city's public security bureau carried out inspections at major hospitals in the city on March 27.

Some large hospitals have increased the number of security workers and installed more emergency alarms and monitoring cameras, Shanghai Morning Post reported.

The bureau said that with more than 10 violent attacks on medical staff members reported so far this year hospitals should enhance their security systems.

Shanghai No 1 People's Hospital said it has installed more emergency alarms in the outpatients department, emergency room and the intensive care unit, where most attacks occurred.
