Jaywalkers in Beijing to be fined

Beijing traffic authorities said that jaywalkers will be fined starting on May 6, the Beijing News reported.
The municipal traffic management bureau said that people who do not wait for the green light for pedestrians before crossing the road will get on-the-spot fines of 10 yuan ($1.60).
A trial implementation of the project has already started this month.
Other provinces including Sichuan and Shaanxi have fines ranging from 20 to 50 yuan.
