Migrant worker deputies increase in NPC

BEIJING - The number of farmers-turned migrant workers elected to the 12th National People's Congress (NPC), China's national legislature, has notably increased.
The 11th NPC Standing Committee confirmed Wednesday that 401 workers and farmers, including farmers-turned migrant workers, have been elected deputies to the 12th NPC.
Workers and farmers comprised 13.42 percent of the total 2,987 newly-elected deputies, an increase of 5.18 percentage points from the 11th NPC, the Standing Committee announced, as it concluded its three-day bi-monthly session.
