12 dead, 17 injured in plant blast in NE China

SHENYANG - Twelve people died and one remain missing after a blast jolted a steel plant in Northeast China's Liaoning province, said local authorities.

Seventeen people were injured in the accident at 11:30 pm Monday at a steel-casting workshop owned by Angang Heavy Machinery Co Ltd in the city of Anshan, according to a statement issued by the publicity department of the provincial committee of the Communist Party of China.
The injured workers were receiving medical treatment in hospital, said the statement.
Rescuers are searching for the missing people. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
