Zhang Haizhong, an official in Handan city, North China’s Hebei province, was found dead on Monday morning in his office, the Beijing News reported on Tuesday.

According to local police, Zhang was stabbed with a knife, but they have not confirmed if he was murdered, the paper said.

An official with the publicity department of the Handan municipal committee of the Communist Party of China said the case is under investigation and he refused to say more about it, the paper said.

Zhang, the head of Hanshan district of Handan city, was in charge of Handan’s supervision and auditing bureaus, the report said.
