Chinese video game giant Tencent Holding Ltd ranked first in the latest Top Video Game Companies ranking released by Newzoo, a gaming industry consultancy.
The ranking was based on companies' game revenues for the first half of 2017.
Tencent generated $7.4 billion in game revenue in the first half of 2017, an increase of 50 percent over the same period last year, thanks to its popular mobile game, King of Glory, with 200 million users in China.
Revenue of NetEase, which ranked seventh, exceeded $2.90 billion, up by 53 percent.
Japanese entertainment giant Sony, which follows Tencent on the list, hit $4.28 billion in game revenue, a 25 percent increase year-on-year.
