BEIJING -- The government will carry out a campaign to prevent wage defaults for migrant workers from rural areas, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said Thursday.

The ministry will enhance its efforts to solve disputes involving overdue wages for migrant workers and use information technology to make labor arbitration more efficient, ministry spokesman Yin Chengji said at a press conference.

Labor arbitration centers investigated 479,000 labor disputes involving 660,000 workers in the first nine months, up 11.9 percent and 19.4 percent year on year, respectively, according to data from the ministry.

Among these cases, 457,000 have been settled, the ministry's figures showed.

During the same period, labor departments inspected 1.5 million employers to find and redress labor problems involving 85 million employees.
