BEIJING -- Chinese shares closed higher in the morning session on Friday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index inched up 0.07 percent, or 2.11 points, to 2,861.68 at midday.

The Shenzhen Component Index rose 51.66 points, or 0.42 percent, to 12,209.77.
