BEIJING - Installed wind power capacity in Inner Mongolia, China's leading builder of wind farms by region, will top 13 gigawatts (gW) by the end of this year, Reuters reported Wednesday, citing an executive with local power grid firm.

The capacity would be more than half of China's total at the beginning of this year, according to data from the National Energy Administration.

Inner Mongolia may install 30 gW of wind power generating capacity by 2015 and 50 gW by 2020, Zhang Fusheng, general manager of Inner Mongolia Power Corp, told an industry conference in Beijing.

He said the region has installed 10.9 gW of wind farms as of last month.

China has the world's highest wind power capacity of 41.8 gW after adding 62 percent or 16 gW in new capacity last year, according to a report by Xinhua news agency.

Chinese wind power capacity connected to grid networks totaled 22.94 gW at the end of August last year, the China Electricity Council said.

China was considering ways to ensure grid connections for output generated from planned wind power capacity of 90 gW by 2015, China's National Energy Administration has said.
