BEIJING - Chinese shares closed higher Tuesday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 14.65 points, or 0.5 percent, to end at 2,919.85.

The Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.36 percent, or 46.28 points, to finish at 12,948.72 points.
