We often see luxury cars smashed to pieces in Hollywood blockbusters such as The Fast and the Furious, but this time it happened in real life. Thankfully, only one person was slightly injured.
A Lamborghini and a Ferrari were involved in traffic accidents in a tunnel on Datun Road near the Bird's Nest stadium in Beijing at about 10:00 pm on Saturday. The Lamborghini was destroyed, with its front end obliterated and debris scattered around. A female passenger in the Lamborghini suffered a lumbar spine injury. The red Ferrari sat tens of meters behind the Lamborghini with its right door broken.
After a preliminary investigation by police, it was determined that neither of the drivers was driving while intoxicated.
The Lamborghini's driver said fast speed and the slippery roadway led to losing control of the vehicle. It hit the guard bar first, then crashed into the tunnel's wall and finally rebounded on the guard bar.
The Ferrari, traveling behind the Lamborghini, also was going fast on the slippery road but the vehicle slowed down after the Lamborghini hit the guard bar. The Ferrari's driver was able to control the vehicle and did not hit the Lamborghini, said the police.
Although the drivers were not injured, a 150-meter-long guard bar and about 10 meters along the tunnel's wall were destroyed, and the drivers should pay to repair the public transit facilities.
