China's online dating websites are facing challenges from social networking apps as more people are looking for their beloved through mobile apps such as WeChat.

Net profits at jiayuan.com, one of China's leading online dating websites, dropped by 36.4 percent in the second quarter, compared with the same period last year, PE Daily reported.

Zhou Zhongxiao, deputy CEO of Jiayuan.com, said social networking apps are convenient for the users, but they are not as safe as dating websites.
