Life on the road

Where are you going this National Day holiday?

I'm going to Thailand - for the first time in more than 20 years. I'm looking forward to rediscovering Bangkok. Last time I was there was as a 10-year-old girl.

I'm going with one of my best friends in Beijing, and he has managed to find really cheap flights from Beijing to Bangkok via Macao where we'll spend a whole day.

How do you buy tickets and make hotel reservations?

My friend found our airfares on the Chinese version of Skyscanner (Tianxun).

What have been your favorite destinations during past National Day holidays? Why?

When I first moved to China 10 years ago, I lived in Kunming and remember spending my first national holiday traveling to ethnic Miao villages in Guizhou province. There was no one there but us!

What do you enjoy most and least when you travel during National Day holidays?

Traveling within China has become almost impossible during national holidays since everyone is traveling at the same time. Prices are high and attractions packed.

Will you bring a camera or just a smartphone for taking pictures? Will you post thoughts and pictures on social media when you travel?

I will bring my camera and smartphone, and will be posting on WeChat.
