A photo taken by a German journalist in April 2014 shows a statue at Zhoukoudian, where Peking man lived approximately 200,000 to 500,000 years ago. Fifty kilometers to the southwest of Beijing, the site is a good place to understand the evolutionary history of modern humanity, especially in East Asia. The Zhoukoudian caves were listed as a world cultural heritage site in 1987. [Photo/IC]
