China, ranked third in the round robin standings with six victories and three losses, will clash with defending champion Sweden in the semi while host Canada is to meet Switzerland in another semi. The semifinals will take place on Thursday. Both the men's and women's tournaments in the Olympic curling competition consist of 10 teams each. During the initial Round Robin phase, each team competes against each of the other teams. Based on the results of the round robin, the four best teams advance to the semifinal with the top-ranked team playing the fourth-ranked team, and second playing third. The winners of each semifinal game are going to play in the gold-medal game and the losers to play in the bronze-medal game.

Although the round robin will close in the evening, the women's medal-play picture was already confirmed after morning sessions. Top seed Canada, who beat Britain 6-5, assured the top standing with eight wins against one loss. Their semi-final rivals will be silver medalists Switzerland four years ago in Torino Winter Games.
