TUCKER'S TOWN, Bermuda -- The Grand Slam of Golf will be based in Bermuda for the next two years.

PGA of America president Brian Whitcomb said a $13.7 million renovation at the Port Royal Golf Club is under way to prepare for the 2009 and 2010 tournaments. The course will be lengthened by 281 yards to 6,842 yards. The tees and greens also will be rebuilt.

The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and is considered the jewel in the island's golfing crown.

Bermuda Premier Ewart Brown said Tuesday the course will be ready by January.

This year's 36-hole tournament began Tuesday at the Mid Ocean Club.
