Liu Xiang, the 110-meter hurdles world record holder has said he hopes to break his own record at the upcoming world championships in Japan or the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

He made the comments on Wednesday at a promotion for his sponsor, Amway, in Beijing.

Liu Xiang said he thinks he can run faster than 12.88 seconds, and added he was not sure if the record-breaking time will be at this year's 11th IAAF world championships in Osaka, or next year.

But he added top runners all have the potential to run under 13 seconds, and the results are all based on their performance at the venue.

Regarding the Olympics, Liu said he hadn't prepared too much or set any goals. But he felt no pressure to contest the Beijing games as he already won gold at the Athens Olympics in 2004.

Liu said his achievements were all thanks to his efforts, spirit and faith to win.
