Liangjiang New Area in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality issued 10 specific actions targeted at improving the community care facilities for elderly people at a meeting presided over by the new area's social security bureau on Dec 2.

The actions listed cover the renovation, style and assessment of elderly care facilities, and are expected to raise the overall service level for senior citizens in communities, and meet their diversified needs.

Renovation work will follow "elderly-friendly" principles. Operational units of community nursing services will be required to collect personal information on each resident, including basic information, health conditions, and service requests with an eye to boosting their level of care.

Professional elderly care assessment teams will be entrusted by the government to rate the performance of each community. The results will be ranked and released every quarter to further regulate the care industry.

Dan Tangwen, director of the bureau, said that the 10 actions would address problems such as outdated facilities, incomplete services and a lack of service awareness.

Liangjiang currently has 47 community elderly care service centers.
