Confucius Temple

(chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2015-04-08 10:57

The Confucius Temple is located on Gong-yuan Street on the northern bank of Nanjing's Qin Huai River. It was a school in the past but is now more of a place to worship the great philosopher and educator of ancient China.

The stone wall on the southern bank of the river is the longest screen wall in China, measuring 110 meters. The ancient Confucius Temple, which comprises the Confucius Temple, school and Jiangnan examination office, was the hub of Jiangnan culture.

There are two special attractions in the inner hall. One is the largest figure of Confucius in China. The other is the beautiful collection of 38 vivid panels that are made of jade, gold and silver, detailing the life of Confucius.

It has suffered repeated damage and has had to be rebuilt several times.

There are always tons of people around the area but it is a nice place to walk through, with numerous little shops providing souve nirs and snacks. You can also have a man pull you around in a rickshaw if you are willing to spend the money.

The must-try dishes include duck blood soup and smoked duck meat.
