The Tianjin Summer Davos, which will be held from Sept 10 to 12, has entered the final stages for its preparation, the news portal of Tianjin city enorth.com.cn reported.
As of August 18, a total of 1,706 people from 110 countries and regions have officially registered, including the Prime Minister of Denmark, Premier of Albania and top leaders from Serbia.
More than 70 percent of guests are from overseas. Originating from Davos in Switzerland, the Summer Davos Forum, also known as the Annual Meeting of the New Champions, has been held in China for the past seven years. Tianjin and Dalian have changed their roles from being an organizer to an active participant for the acceleration of China’s globalization.
The upcoming Summer Davos in Tianjin will feature more Chinese elements in various activities before its opening. The events of "Welcoming Summer Davos, seeking the most beautiful scene in Tianjin" photography competition, "Davos Goes into Colleges" and "50 Foreigners' Talking about Tianjin" have been held already.
However, it’s not an easy way to strive for China’s changing role in Summer Davos.
"Even handing out China’s promotional materials wasn’t allowed in the first World Economic Forum in Dalian", according to Zhan Anling, a divisional director of the Information Office of the State Council, "but with a joint effort, China now has its own exhibition area for brochure distribution and we have a more prominent position in the hall than ever before."
So far, the Summer Davos 2014 has confirmed 7 topics and 20 subtopics. Some of them are full of Chinese tradition, such as "From Confucius to China’s Pop Music" and "Restart China’s Financial Industry".
Thanks to the mutual exchange of the forum’s topic research teams based in Tianjin and Dalian, topics which attach great importance to China’s household and national interests have been enrolled in the forum’s agenda.
For the benefit of creating an opportunity for communication between high-tech SMEs in China and international giants, the organizing committee will hold an event called "Little Giants come to Davos".
Until August 20, five local technology-based enterprises acquired their admissions to this year's Summer Davos Forum in Tianjin, in the final stage of this event.
With the development of China’s involvement and initiatives in Davos, the communication between foreign and Chinese staff has become more frequent, said a Chinese membr of the organizing committee.
Some approaches regarding China’s organization of conferences or exhibitions have been applied in the forum gradually. Compared to Summer Davos 2011, the expense of preparation was reduced by 35 percent in the Dalian Summer Davos 2013. Most of the equipment was rented from governmental departments.
