Anren, a museum town near Chengdu

Anren, which is some 39 km from Chengdu and 36 km away from Shuangliu International Airport, is considered to be a ‘museum town of China’ with a total area of 56.9 square kilometers and a population of 56,700.

The ancient town displays the modern history of western Sichuan over the past 100 years. It has a national AAAA tourist site - Liu's Manor Museum and China’s largest folk museum cluster - Jianchuan Museum Cluster.

There are 27 well preserved old residences with Chinese and Western architectural styles, 35 modern museums and 16 cultural relics protection units in the town.It also has more than 800 collections and 343 national-level cultural relics. The museum town was honored as a “Famous Chinese Town with Historic and Cultural Significance” by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Construction.

The Chengdu municipal government announced its plan on April 28, 2009 to develop Anren into a world-class museum town in five years. It is expected to attract three million tourists, 500,000 of whom will stay overnight, after completion.
