Tianjin Opera Company Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1985 for the purpose of popularizing orchestral music. Tianjin Opera Company Symphony Orchestra has contributed much to the development of the Chinese symphonic tradition and has been successful in performing an abundance of classical and romantic symphonies.
Its ambition has always been to encourage the creation of new Chinese orchestral works; many of such have subsequently been commissioned by Tianjin Opera Company Symphony Orchestra. At the end of 2012, Muhai Tang who widely respected as the pre-eminent Chinese conductor is announced as chief conductor and artistic director of the Tianjin Opera Company Symphony Orchestra.
