Senior executives of world-famous hi-tech companies and venture capital institutions, including Qualcomm, Northern Light Venture, Mozilla and ARM, joined a summit held by Thundersoft to share their views on scientific and technological innovation in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, on March 11.

The summit focused upon topics that included the future of mobile communications, hi-tech investment and destructive innovation.

"In the future, operating systems of mobile terminals will enjoy a higher degree of expandability and flexibility," says Yan Xuefeng, mobile marketing director of Mozilla.

"The world is currently showering its attention on the future development of the mobile Internet industry. Although the mobile Internet is at its preliminary stage of development, it has shown great impulsive force and development potential," says Zhao Hongfei, president of Thundersoft.

There are currently more than 6.4 billion diverse terminal devices and network connections across the globe. Huge market potential results from the need to provide information service and data for these devices and connections.

According to Wang Xiang, vice-president of Qualcomm, companies need to provide wider and better wireless coverage and better integrate mobile terminal innovation with cloud computing, which will drastically restructure the information, communication and technology industries.

With its livable environment, abundant talent resources, advanced industrial chains and highly efficient government services, Chengdu has drawn close attention from entrepreneurs and investment agencies.

Chengdu hi-tech zone is becoming the top site for a string of mobile Internet corporations to set up their branches. Mobile Internet corporations that settled in the hi-tech zone have amounted to 505 by the end of 2013, creating a yearly output value of more than 13 billion yuan ($2.1 billion).

Against this backdrop, the city's hi-tech zone will scale up efforts to develop strategic emerging industries and productive service industries, including next generation information technology, bio-tech, high-end equipment manufacturing, energy conservation and environmental protection, financial and business service industries.
