Giving signed basketball to middle school as a gift
Xi Jinping and Biden visited the Qincheng Mountain Senior Middle School at 3pm. They watched male and female basketball teams training. They walked and talked to many of the students. After signing the basket given by NBA, the two state leaders took photos with the team members.
In the hall of the teaching building, Xi Jinping and Biden listened to the reconstruction introduction after the disaster made by the secretary of Sichuan provincial party committee Liu Qibao. Soon afterwards, the two leaders walked into the classroom where the teachers and the students stood up and applauded their special guests. Xi and Biden communicated briefly with the students.
Xi Jinping took many questions from the students and encouraged them to cherish the valuable time now, study hard, understand the basics, master true skill and genuine knowledge, stay fit and strive for all-round development in morality, intelligence, physics, beauty and labor.
Biden said that students in China have accomplished great progress compared with more than 30 years ago. The United States and China share common interests. China’s development will not merely benefit its people but it is also in the interests of the United States.
The buildings of Qincheng Mountain Senior Middle School established in 1946 collapsed in the earthquake three years ago. More than 800 students sitting their college entrance examination at the time had no other choice but to resume classes in tents. On campus today, the walls have been painted, the trees provide pleasant shade, the new art building and gymnasium stand proudly, and the brand new dormitories are comfortable and safe. In the post-disaster reconstruction, up to 3,000 teachers and students have developed friendship from the other side of the Pacific. NBA has financially assisted in establishing one indoor and four outdoor basketball courts. In February 2011, the teachers and students from the Duke University USA held activities here.
