9th BCIM Forum opens in SW China

The 9th BCIM (Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar) regional economic cooperation forum kicks off in Kunming, capital of Southwest China’s Yunnan province from Jan 17 to 19, 2011.

With the theme of multi-track approach and programs for cooperation, the forum is expected to involve participation from government agencies, academic circles and business communities.

The forum is divided into three parts, namely, opening session, panel discussions and signing documents. The topic includes exchange in social and cultural fields; regional economic cooperation; regional connectivity infrastructure; proposals regarding to institutional arrangement for BCIM forum.

Kunming Initiative, launched in 1999 and later evolved into BCIM Regional Cooperation Forum, which has been held 8 times respectively in Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar, has kept on yielding substantial results and has become a symbol of friendship among people of four countries and carrier of common wish for peace and prosperity in the region.

Against the backdrop of quick recovering from world financial crisis by Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar, economic cooperation among the four countries in adjacent areas once again caught attention of government agencies, academic institutions and business communities in the region.
