Hefei to host film awards festival

The 20th Golden Rooster and Full Blossom Film Festival, known as the Oscars in Chinese film industry, will be held in Hefei in Anhui province from October to November in 2011.
"It is the first time that the Golden Rooster and Full Blossom Film Festival is being held in Hefei. The festival will become the most magnificent entertainment activity ever held in Anhui province,” said Wang Jie, chief of the bureau of culture, radio, television, press and publication in Hefei.
The film festival will be divided into 12 parts, including an opening ceremony, a star-studded red carpet affair, the showing of new domestic films, a Taiwan film show, Hong Kong film show and the Golden Rooster Award ceremony.
"The practice of announcing the Golden Rooster Award in odd-numbered years and the Full Blossom Award in even-numbered years has been in place since 2005. The Golden Rooster Award will be unveiled at the 2011 Hefei Golden Rooster and Full Blossom Festival,” Wang told reporters.
In addition, a film studio is under construction in Hefei, which will be introduced at the 2011 Hefei Golden Rooster and Full Blossom Festival. The studio is located in Hefei’s Baohe district on the north side of Chaohu Lake. The sets that are being built including reproductions of an ancient gate tower, teahouse, quadrangle dwellings and ancient inns. With a production capacity of 500 episodes of TV dramas every year, the studio also will attract world-famous movie stars like Jackie Chan and Donnie Ye. The studio also will become a leading film industry center and vacation resort in Anhui.
