Chapter 12 International Exchanges and Cooperation

From November 30 to December 1, 2009, SAIC and WIPO held the Asia-Pacific Workshop on Geographical Indications in Chongqing to exchange experiences and methods on utilizing geographical indications to improve economic development in rural areas. The workshop attracted some 200 representatives and experts from WIPO, South Africa and Thailand, as well as other countries and relevant departments in China. An exhibition, themed as China Agricultural Product Trademark and Geographical Indication, was held during the workshop period. The workshop representatives not only had a chance to see the development of China’s agricultural product trademarks and geographical indications through the exhibition, but also had an on-site visit to the production processes “Fulin Mustard Tuber” and “Shatian Longevity Shaddock,” two Chongqing geographical indication products. All these deeply impressed Ms. Wang Binying, Deputy Director-General of WIPO, and others.

December 16th, Li Jianchang, Director General of Trademark Office, met the delegation headed by Mr. Herman Ntchatcho, Director of African Bureau of WIPO. Li showed the guests the exhibition on geographical indications.
