Shanghai issued a report on its copy right industry on April 12 to give investors a full view of the city's development of the kind.

The report was the result of one year's research to respond to China's programme on the State intellectual property right strategy.

"The research is of great value and significance to push forward the development of the city's copy right industry," said a senior official of the Shanghai Copy Right Administration.

The report said the increase value of the city's copy right industry grew from 66.95 billion yuan in 2004 to 108.58 billion yuan in 2007, accounting for 8.29 per cent of the gross domestic product in 2004 and 8.91 per cent of GDP in 2007.

The city had 764,500 employees in the copy right industry in 2007, taking up 8.41 per cent of its total employees.

It exported copy right-related products valued at $54.55 billion in 2007.

"This shows that the city's copy right industry has maintained a sustainable growth to reach a higher level than other regions in China," the official said, adding that the city's copy right industry has a great potential to tap for further development.
