Tourism can bring jobs and business to rural areas without huge investments from the governments. Tourists from around the world would love to visit China’s country sides as “side trips” after they visit the traditional, big Chinese cities and tourist sites. In G7 tourism, half-day or day-trip excursions (side-trips) are very popular and a must-have feature for most tour programs. The tour operators can make extra profits by selling these excursions and offer more sightseeing and cultural experience for the tourists to meet local people. Under the rural tourism development program, government or tour operators must provide initial loans (or grants) to build up the infrastructures and welcome center to kick off new the tourist site. Profit sharing from the welcome center and shops are used to pay down the initial loans for eventual buy-out by the rural community. This way lasting wealth can be created for the rural communities to fund new businesses and services to become part of Modern China.
