两面人 (liǎng miàn rén): Two-faced man

(China Daily) Updated: 2015-04-02 08:09

Wang Min, former Party chief of Jinan, capital of East China's Shandong province, has been expelled from the Party and transferred to the judicial authorities because of corruption. He was once deemed a model official by some subordinates because he publicly advocated Party discipline, the rule of law and the fight against corruption. However, he has been found to have privately taken advantage of his position to seek profit for his relatives and friends and accepted bribes of more than 20 million yuan ($3.2 million).

Investigations since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012 have revealed such "two-faced" officials are not uncommon. Such officials pretend to be clean in front of the people, while violating Party rules and the law in private. Even on the day Wang Min was placed under investigation, the news that he delivered a report at an anti-corruption meeting was still on the front page of local newspapers.

The CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection has posted an article analyzing the fall of Wang on its website.

The article says that Wang's two-faced nature cheated the Party and the public, and seriously undermined the image of the Party and the government. Other Party members should heed the lessons of his fall.
