Both my brother and I are university graduates. My parents could have easily paid for all our college expenses. Yet what happened was they ended up paying very little. Why? Because my parents instilled a fantastic work ethic into their children. They created an environment where we strived to be self-reliant. So while we knew we had the means, we both still wanted to succeed with minimal financial aid. Both my brother and I received scholarships and both of us worked to subsist our education. Therein is a big problem I see in today's youth: how many of them actually work in high school anymore? How many strive to work harder to gain those valuable scholarships or government grants? All I see nowadays is "mommy and daddy will pay for it or I will just take out a bunch of loans." This does not bode well for this country's future.
