Located next to China’s southwestern border, the city of Pu’er in Yunnan province has a population of 2.58 million and covers an area of 45,000 square kilometers.

Pu’er has a long history dating back to the Shang (c.16th century-11th century BC) and Zhou (c.11th century-256 BC) dynasties and its name was officially changed from Simao to Pu’er in 2007.

There are 36 ethnic groups living in the Pu'er region, including Hani, Yi, Dai, Lahu, Wa, Buyi and Yao, which make up 61% of the total population. The exotic culture and the romantic scenery in this Chinese borderland bring unique character to this city.
