This year Yuxi has decided to showcase its pottery and ancient tea horse road culture using spectacular light displays.
What makes the festival unique is its 3-D light projection and sound effects system which puts the audience in a great high-tech light environment.
"The festival is meaningful not only for its effect in promoting Yuxi culture but also for its impact on local tourism and economy," said Zhang Xiaoliang, member of the Yuxi municipal Party committee.
More activities will be added to the lantern show including a rice noodle festival, folk customs activity and a shopping festival.
