Recently a charity activity called "love wardrobe" got underway in Yunnan province bringing warmth to local poor kids.
The activity, organized by the China Youth Development Foundation, actually started this year in Yunnan in June, but has been donating winter clothes since June 2011. By May of this year it had donated to 137,000 children in 1,079 schools.
The foundation consists of some domestic mass media, entrepreneurs and celebrities, and is intended to raise awareness about kids in poverty.
"We really hope that more people will shift their attention to the kids in need and help them improve their living conditions," said Zhou Jin, the activity's organizer.
The first activity of the "love wardrobe" was to provide local poor kids with gifts for International Children's Day.
The voluntary team collected children's dream gifts in a Yunnan primary school right before the festival.
On June 2 over 50 children were thrilled when receiving their presents including Barbie dolls, Transformers and electronic watches.
In August this year the team organized a trip to some poor villages in Luquan Yi and Miao autonomous county and established one-to-one assistance ties between the volunteers and local poor kids.
Song Jiaxhuan, a 10-year-old girl, said she was shocked when she saw the extremely simple decoration of a poor kid’s home.
"I was very happy to see the smile from the kid I donate goods to," she said.
The girl's mother was very supportive of the charity activity.
"People may feel that we help the poor kids, but actually they have helped us too. They give us happiness," she said.
Zhou Jin said that more activities will be added to "love wardrobe" to help even more children in need.
