The Urumqi State High-tech Industrial Zone signed a contract with Honeywell (China) International Inc on Sept 21 to cooperate in smart power grids and transportation infrastructure construction.
Hao Jianmin, head of the high-tech district, signed a memorandum of cooperation with Sheng Weili, the multinational corporation's president.
Gao Feng, Urumqi's deputy mayor, gave a speech at the ceremony. He said, "Urumqi's cooperation with Honeywell is conducive to Xinjiang's social stability and economic development. It can also strengthen the city's status as the core base of the Silk Road Economic Belt."
Honeywell is a Global 100 manufacturer doing business in aerospace, automatic control systems, traffic transportation and special materials.
Sheng Weili, the company's president, said, "This is the fourth time the company has attended the China-Eurasia Expo. I really hope it can deepen cooperation between the company and Xinjiang."
He added, "Honeywell hopes to penetrate deep into Xinjiang's market with its sophisticated infrastructure construction skills and help Xinjiang’s good local companies go international."
According to the contract, the company will set up a smart power grid base in Urumqi. It will also assist with local electric network transformation and help manufacture other grid-supporting facilities. The enterprise also promised to aid Urumqi's international airport construction and promote regional aviation development.
