Xiamen to host cross-Straits book fair

More than 700,000 books in 200,000 categories will be showcased at the 13th Cross-Strait Book Fair, set to take place in Xiamen, Fujian province from Oct 13 to 15, according to Xiamen Daily on Oct 11.
Some 500 publishing agencies will attend the book fair, of which 300 agencies are from the Chinese mainland and over 200 agencies from Taiwan.
With an area of more than 30,000 square meters, the book fair will set up two main venues at Xiamen Arts Center and Xiamen Bookstore and three sub-venues in Jimei district, Haicang district and Gulangyu Island.
Over 90 activities will be carried out during the three-day fair to shine a light on the fruits yielded by the cross-Straits publishing industry and create a happy reading atmosphere. The activities include family reading parties, famous article recitals, a book photography competition, and lectures on animation.
Renowned writers from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan will attend the book fair to sign books for fans and give lectures.
The Cross-Strait Book Fair has been run annually in Xiamen and Taibei, Taiwan since 2005. More than 1,400 cross-Straits publishing agencies have attended the fair and 8 million books have been shown, generating a total sales revenue of 370 million yuan ($55.5 million).
